Two weeks ago, I had the privilege to attend the Meals on Wheels San Francisco 26th Annual Star Chefs & Vintners Gala which raise more than 2.16 Million dollars, translating to 430,000 meals to homebound seniors.
Headlined by Nancy Oakes, Gala Chef Chairwoman ( Boulevard restaurant), it is the biggest gathering of chefs and vintners in San Francisco every year, and I have it on my calendar pretty much as soon as it is announced. The majority of the ticket goes towards the fund raising and there are silent and exciting live auctions to help raise money towards the goal. See complete list of chefs and vintners here
The event starts with a 2 hour reception where Bay Area restaurants, wineries and cocktail makers demonstrate their skills with amazing small plates and pairing with wines and cocktails.
After the opening reception there is a three course sit-down dinner prepared by chefs from different restaurants (My meal was prepared by Americano Restaurant, State Bird Provisions and Jardiniere)
After the dinner was the live auction with items including special food and wine experiences with the chefs of some of San Francisco’s finest restaurants.
The evening then finishes up with a dessert reception and dancing to end the evening.
At the end of the evening, $2.16 million dollars was raised for a good cause. The following video best explains the goals and activities of Meals on Wheels San Francisco.
Please visit the Meals on Wheels San Francisco web site for volunteer and other information.
Looking forward to putting next year’s event on my calendar.
